Czech Govt. Human Rights Council against voting rights for foreigners

(Prague, 27/11/2014) Human Rights Council of the Czech Government voted on 26 November 2014 against the proposal of the Foreigners´ Rights Committee to grant electoral rights to third country nationals with permanent resident permits. With this decision, the battle of the Organization for Aid to Refugees (OPU) Director Martin Rozumek and representatives of some other NGOs is, for the time being, lost. However, the Human Rights Council approved the proposal to enable immigrants the membership in political parties, which would be a step forward mainly for EU citizens having the voting rights.  Attached is a commentary from Martin Rozumek, who defended the voting rights before the Council (in Czech language only).
